US President Barack Obama has once again made history as he was awarded the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 on October 9 (Friday). As the first African American to break the color barrier in the White House, the Nobel committee based in Norway thought that Obama with "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples" deserved the Peace Prize award this year.
President Obama bested 172 people and 33 organizations who were nominated for the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize and he was the fourth US president to receive this award. In his still short term as US president, Obama has already responded to the difficult issues like the economic slowdown to Afghanistan and Iraq affairs. Here is the CNN reportage of President Obama being the 2009 Nobel Peace laureate.
